FOC Calculator

I thought on one of the links that I saw a FOC calculator,
sure would be a handy tool to have available for those technical shooters, hunters tuning, etc. Know other sites have them.
Thanks again for the information being made available from all who have wrote in.

I am way ahead of you guys - sorta

We have the absolute coolest arrow selection calculator "coming soon" I had hoped to launch with it, but we want it perfect. Everything had to be updated for the new arrows so it is taking a bit more time to work it out. I think you guys will like it though - easy to use and very interactive.

Glad to hear ;) and thanks!

I hope the color change helped. The blue was making me a little crazy. This might be a bit more readable - any other thoughts?

The calculator should be online by December 1 - if all goes well. It's pretty slick, and I think we will expand on it as time on. We can get pretty techy here at CX headquarters.

Now if we can get that light grey text color turned just a shade darker. It's just horrible to try and read! Sorry Ken. I know your software has limitations. Just hopeing is all!;)

Hi all,

I would like to know if the FOC calculator and Spine selector have been released and if yes, where they can be found.

Thanks for your answers.

Not yet Procastiniamo, but keep checkin' back. Ken's gettin' after it as we speak.
Not that I like steerin' you away from the CX site but here are a few online calculators on another site that'll work well for ya till Ken gets ours workin':

FOC Calculator: http://www.odproshops.com/foccalculator.htm

Kinetic Energy Calculator: http://www.odproshops.com/Kecalculator.htm

Percent Let off Calculator for Compound Bows:
http://www.odproshops.com/letoffcalculator.htm

But if you need it bad, here's a long hand version:
Use the following formula to calculate the F.O.C. of an arrow.

L= Correct Arrow Length – Distance from bottom of nock groove to end of shaft.

A = Distance form the bottom of nock groove to finished arrow balance position (includes weight of point plus insert, nock system and fletching)

AMO-Standard F.O.C. balance formula

F.O.C%= (100x(A-L/2))/L

Whew!!! Writers cramp 'er Typers cramp maybe?!?!?

Billy

Thanks for your answer Billy and thanks for the information.

Just one thing: I have to correct the FOC balance formula you gave yesterday it is

F.O.C%= (100x(A-L/2))/L

The one you gave me provided me with resutls such as 1449% or somenthing and almost a heart attack ;)

If By chance, you had an idea of what the ideal FOC could be for a Nano XR shaft shot with a recurve bow at powers between 42 and 50 pounds, I would love to get the information.

Thanks!

Will the new Medallion-XR also be in the new arrow selection calculator ???

Hey Procastiniamo, thanks for the correction. I knew that I typed way too much!:P As far as a perfect foc for your setup, I can only say what I would prefer. For me that's somewhere between 11 and 14. But that's with a compound. I just prefer a heavier front end to pull the arrow to the target at longer distances. I've shot anywhere from 7 to 14 depending on the max distances. This is dependent on your likes, and what your bow prefers in my opinion.

And NoSights, that my friend is probably a question for our illustrious forum leader KC to answer. But I'd say that if CX makes it, it'll be in the selector!
Hope that helps some!

Billy

Let's get technical.

The FOC is rather simple to figure once the arrow is built.

Before building the arrow however, it would be extra handy to be able to use a calculator where archers could select the componenents they will build their arrow from, and the result would be to provide the total grain weight of the arrow and the foward of center balance point. I use something like this on my own computer for simulations when considering designing/assembling something new (guess I'm kinda a nerdy shooter).

And better yet, specific instructions of trimming the new weight forward arrows from the nock end to change the dynamic spine of the shafts, and the resulting FOC.

Something to consider -- this would really help the intermediate and advanced shooters.

Great point Don, and I think that's the kind of thing that KC is workin' on! That would be a monster addition to the site!

This addition going to be the spot to go. Know there several points to consider, being new and early yet. Will it be where can enter all aspects of choice(arrow, fleching, points, grains weight, etc) for a final calculation? Know the one been looking at does. Thanks for moving forward it will be benificial to selection of Carbon Express Products.
